1894 Esperanto Reform Project

In 1894, L. L. Zamenhof, who was the original creator of the constructed language Esperanto, proposed a complete series of reforms to Esperanto (in other words, an Esperantido). It is notable as the only complete Esperantido to be authored by Zamenhof himself, and it was presented in response to various reforms that had been proposed by others since the language's publication in 1887. The project was eventually rejected by the language's speakers, and subsequently even by Zamenhof himself. Some of the proposed reforms were used in another constructed language, Ido, beginning in 1907.

Next Saturday is My Birthday, and I Like to Give You a Gift

Next Saturday (March 11) is my birthday. That’s why I want to give you something to thank you for visiting my site. At least some of you have wondered how I make my kaleidoscopes. Therefore, I will reveal it to you one way. First, there must be a drawing, the raw print I always make manually. After that, edit the drawing in Gimp, a free image editing program. Still, it is possible to create good kaleidoscopes even from a picture drawn with a pen.

Below is a drawing of the starting point this time. I have added different layers to the bottom part in Gimp.

Then I started running ornaments from the drawing using the G’Mic add-on available for Gimp. On the GIF presentation, you can browse some of the examples.

Here is a YouTube video on G’Mic to Gimp

This is the path how you’ll find the Kaleidoscope tool:
Filter-menu (or whatever menu where you G’Mic is)/G’Mic-QT/Deformations/Kaleidoscope

Note that the add-on doesn’t work before you open the picture file.

Help Yourself Is the Best Policy to Learn

I am sure you will understand that I cannot give everyone a piece of personal advice. If you are interested in manipulating pictures, you must be very patient and learn things at your own pace.

Please let me know which of the examples most pleases you. When I know your favorite one, I will upload it here so you can download it yourself. You are free to use my drawing and test what kind of ornaments you get with the help of the G’Mic add-on.

If You Want to Give Me a Present

Please watch the video below if you want to give me a present. I am singing my first recorded song with accompanying myself with the guitar.

Experienced in these years

Listen to: http://youtu.be/aZrRBb7rAlg14

Too much, I have experienced in these years,
Too many are those who owe me tears.
I remember that gray platform
Where the rain carried a friend.

Refrain:

Then do not bloom
My dear apple trees,
Neither anyone whispered in my ear:
Darling, do not forget me.

Never I have been afraid
Yet on this trip until tomorrow.
Little boy has avoided the dangers
side by side the kind woman reflection.

The refrain

I know mothers weeping eyelids
Do not explain the words out loud,
They just give their love for guidance
and prayers for protection.

The final two times:

Now bloom my dear
Sacred apple trees.
They have the heavenly scent,
The fragrance that never go away.

Music and Lyrics by Ilkka Pakarinen 1982,
record out in 1983.

You can make my day by sending the URL of this song to your friends or listening to my music on YouTube because Youtube doesn’t count when someone watches the linked video.

Fossils are Lovely

Some people may be shocked by fossils. I think they are lovely. Some lizards lived before the dinosaurs and knew how to write. In addition to the animal, the rock contains its message for posterity; see the picture below.

Wow, this creature even knew to predict the arrival of Christmas in the world.

A Finnish Christmas Carol and Free Christmas Card 2021

I have edited a digital vocal section for the Finnish Christmas song Christmas Tree for this Christmas. I have used a paid plugin for that. The result, I think, sounds pretty natural. Below is a YouTube video from which you can hear the outcome and watch the English translation.

Christmas Tree Song (Joulupuu on rakennettu)

Christmas Tree song (Joulupuu on rakennettu) is old Finnish folklore. It became a Christmas Carol in 1876 when Vicar Gustav Oskar Schöneman (1839-1894) wrote words for it. Children have always liked the song. They want to sing it while dancing around the Christmas tree.

I have translated the Finnish words of the Christmas tree into English. If you like the song, tell your friends too. There is a charge for the commercial use of the translation. Copyright matters are taken care of by Teosto Finland.

Karjalan kielen livvin murteen sanakirja

Suomi-Karjala- sanakirja

Hain perjantaina (28.05.21) postiautomaatista Suomi-Karjala-sanakirjan.

Sitten värssy, josta korjaan virheet, kunhan joskus saan kaipaamani kieliopin.

Kus olet rakkahus,
konzu et tiäpäi eliä.
Et maltu toizel puolel
olla meijän taloloi.
Myökö vaiku sinust
huaveillamma.

Missä olet rakkaus,
kun et täällä asu.
Et kuulemma luuraa
naapurikylässäkään.
Mekö sinusta vain.
haaveilemme.

Näköjään Raija Pyöli on toimittanut Karjala-Suomi-sanakirjan, mikä sekin olisi suureksi avuksi, mutta ensin katson, miten pitkälle pääsen, kunhan saan odottamani kieliopin käyttööni. Siihen asti tämä artikkeli saa luvan odottaa.

Blowing in the WInd

An older man laid down on his bed. He suffered from the heat of summer in the old hospital that missed the air-condition. The pavement went just along the side of the wooden house, and voices from the street came indoors to the first floor where the man spent the last moments of his life. This evening was a more restless night than usual because of Midsummer eve.

Now and then, some people stopped under the window and changed news. Nurses went immediately to the window and asked people to leave because they were disturbing the palliative care patients. The older man was alone in the room and didn’t get annoyed when he heard people’s voices. They made him forget his situation, but he didn’t forbid nurses to do their job.

Around nine p.m., some youngsters parked under the window. One of them has a guitar, and he or she played it well. Again one of the nurses ran to the window to make people away. Then the older man said:

”Let them be there. Youngster’s talk makes me feel happy.”

The nurse was uncertain. The patient’s wish was odd, and she was afraid of getting reproaches from the chief nurse if she is let people make noises outdoors. She went out of the room to consult her boss. She was surprised when Mrs. Clayton said: ”You can fulfill the man’s wish because he is alone in the room, and upstairs is also empty.”

When she got back to the patient room, the youngster has become louder, but Mr. Smith was smiling. The nurse, Mrs. Kind, informed his patient what Clayton told her. The evening went on, and the youngsters were singing now—some reason they like to sing old folk songs from the sixties. When the nurse Kind came to see him at ten o’clock, he asked:

”Could you ask them to sing Bob Dylan’s song from the sixties?” She did what the patient asked.

At eleven o’clock, when she came to see Mr. Smith once more, she heard the youngsters were singing ”Blowing in the wind.” The older man has a smiling face and teardrop on his cheek. Mrs. Kind didn’t feel the pulse on her patient’s warm wrist. She walked to the window and said:

”Thank you.”

The young people looked surprised, and the guitar player said:

”Why”?

”Heaven knows,” replied the nurse.

Happy Valentine's Day 2021

I have designed the free Valentine’s Card 2021 using free PhotoScape X photo editing software. You can install it to Macintosh and Windows computers.

The next card below you can use even in the year 2022 and after that.

If you like this design you can get something like it by following these steps:

I have used the Bodoni MT Black font with the multicolored outline. You get it by clicking the icon where are many colors. The picture is 800 pixels in weight and 1000 pixels in height. After that, I clicked the Transform button when the Transform dialog box opened (see the image below).

In the Transform Dialog box, I selected the values which you see in the picture.

I have designed the next free card using PhotoScape X as well. I write the message in Interlingua, an artificial language. It means: ”Happy Valentine’s Day.”

I know that there is still time for the Valentine’s Day celebration, but I wanted to give you time to design even your card by yourself.

In Finland, we don’t celebrate Valentine’s day but The Friend’s Day when we remember our loved ones.

A Little Miracle aka An Ode to a Friend

The house was passed on from father to son for generations
But I felt myself older than its aged plank floors and stone walls.
The extra heater glowed like a giant burning cigarette head.
I was planning my transfer from time to timelessness
when the sudden rustle woke me up.
I charmed the light to the room from the switch.
In the middle of the floor was a mouse with its
forelimbs up like it was caught red-handed.
I took pity on it and immediately turned the light off.
After that, I didn’t reveal my pattering roommate.
I was taken a fancy to and fallen in love with
when it started to eat a tiny piece of cheese.
I set for it between the wall and the oven,
first far away into the hole but step by step towards
the floor. Our life turned into my wanting for tomorrow,
even without the spouse.

When I have almost done my last semester,
I found my friend’s lifeless body on the living room floor.
Its scarlet fur flamed in the sunbeams which came from
the little gap between the curtains.
I put it into the giant matchbox and carried the coffin across
the waving meadow to the edge of the forest.
I dug the grave where the ground was full of wood anemones.
I was a qualified culture secretary, and it was in the heart of
the earth remaining as my big little miracle.

PS You can write your own greetings to the following card. I added it here because the heart was a little difficult to do using PhotoScape X.
