Festina lente

Ainakin tämän yhden kerran esittelen lukijoille, miten latinan kieli kääntyy englanniksi. Jo tämän vähäiseltä näyttävän tiedon keräämiseen on mennyt aikaa, minkä vuoksi ajattelin sen jakamisesta voivan olla iloa lukijoille, jotka ovat kielistä kiinnostuneita.

At least this once I show how Latin can be translated into English. There might be more these translations or not.

Hoc rem (res, rei) odi (odisse).

I hate this thing.

Cum tristis sum (esse),

When I am sad (man),

in silvam (silva) ambulo.

I walk into the forest.

Es tu tristis?

Are you sad (woman)?

Hoc cornu breve est.

This wing (army) is short.

Taurus cornua longa habet.

The bull has long horns.

Festina lente

Hurry slowly

Suluissa on esitetty sanan perusmuoto ja mahdollisesti genetiivi, ks. taulukon ensimmäinen rivi. Adjektiivit taipuvat pääsanansa mukaisesti suvussa ja sijassa eli ahkera tyttö, kuuluu näin: Puella industria (a/the industrious girl)

Industrius

In silvam ambulo = I walk into the forest, but
In silva ambulo = I walk in the forest.

Festina => imperative singular of festinare I.
Domum (domus) festino. = I hurry/am hurrying home.
Domi sum. = I am at home.
Domo = from home
